WW I Special Event Memorial

Another special event certificate arrived in email today. I was honored to work special event station WW1USA. The station serves as the voice of the National WW I Museum and Memorial. A series of special events are planned through 2016 and 2017 to celebrate centennial events that occurred during the war years. The Battle of Verdun, fought from 21 February – 18 December 1916), was the theme of this event.

During the war period (1914 - 1918) many of today's technologies, including radio, were in their infancy.

The certificate for this event is set on a background picture of poppy plant flowers. The poppy gained its significance as a symbol of remembrance from John McCrae’s poem “In Flanders Fields” (1915). Upon entering the Museum, visitors pass over a field of 9,000 red poppies, each representing 1,000 combatant fatalities from the Great War.
